Zombie fans have a new reason to live as Undawn is on the horizon

I can smell your brains

Let’s play a little game, the main purpose of which is to gauge exactly how excited you’ll be about a project by Lightspeed and Quantum Studios. See if you can name the movie by the following quotes: “But I forgive you darlin’ and I know you’re here, because I can smell your brains”; “When there’s no more room in hell, the dead will walk the Earth”; “Good riddance. Always giving to others instead of to yourself. Why did you live like that? What was the point? What a load of crap.”

Score three out of three? Well then you’re pretty much guaranteed to be thrilled at the news that there’s a new game called Undawn headed our way. The setting is the world as we once knew it recalibrated for the post-apocalypse. In addition to human beings, said world is overrun by what have been referred to as the walking dead, the living dead, walkers, the infected, and good old-fashioned zombies.

Those who’ve survived the end of times will be tasked with stockpiling weapons, food, and whatever else they can get their hands on to set up camps from which to operate from. The goal them becomes joined up with other survivors to avoid becoming lunch, or going it alone.

The action in Undawn, which is from Tencent-owned Lightspeed and Quantum Studios, will take place in both player-versus-player mode and player-versus-environment.

As anyone who’s watched The Walking Dead knows, the brilliance of the show has been the way that the backdrop is always changing. One minute the gang is hanging out in the woods hunting for squirrels, the next they’re in the city wondering when the hell Princess is going to stop talking.

The advance word is Undawn will take place everywhere from urban environments to places where you can’t see the forest for the trees.

Zombies in different flavours!

Zombies, meanwhile, won’t come in just one flavour.

Sound like something that you can hardly wait for? If so, registration is now open for pre-alpha testing later this month. Go here to register.

Sorry Apple fans, but that testing is only for Android.

There’s been no official release date for Undawn. As for the above quotes, gold-star if you guessed The Return of the Living Dead and Dawn of the Dead. As for Train to Busan, if you don’t speak Korean and can’t read, you at least have an excuse.
