Clearly someone with time on her hands, Grimes teams up with Rocket League

Give Grimes endless amounts of credit for continuing to be out there. And by that, we’re not talking about showing up at the Met Ball with a giant retro-futuristic sword and metallic Dune mask. Or posting endless Instagram photos that suggest braids, braids, and more braids are three of her favourite things. Or separating from Elon Musk, only to suggest on social media that she’s once again pregnant, with the big-money-wagering being that the baby daddy is—you guessed it—Elon Musk..

Musk has added to the speculation on that front; right after Grimes posted an illustrated Instagram shot of herself with a prominent baby bump on Tuesday, the world’s richest man took to Twitter with this:

But we’re getting sidetracked here. Where Grimes deserves mondo credit for continuing to keep her name out there at a time when she’s got a new baby. And when the entire world is hunkered down waiting out the latest COVID-19 curveball.

Forget watching reruns on Netflix in between attempting to catch up on her sleep, the one-woman empire born Claire Elise Boucher continues to roll out projects on an almost-weekly basis. In late December it was announcing she’s ready to quit her long-time day job of making music. Ten days ago it was announcing plans to release a 35-track nightcore opus. This morning Grimes announced the re-release of 2010’s Visions on vinyl.

And this afternoon? Grimes has plunged into the booming world of esports, specifically Rocket League. Hopefully someone is making the time to change X Æ A-Xii’s diapers.

Game developer Psyonix has announced a partnership with Grimes for a new Neon Nights event. Kicking off on January 26, the fans of both Rocket League and Ms. Boucher will have the chance to unlock all sorts of goodies.

Obviously excited, Rocket League posted the following on its site:

Cars have always been the main event in Rocket League, but a strong second is the game’s musical legacy. To celebrate our ever-evolving soundtrack, we’re introducing a new in-game event called Neon Nights that includes exciting Challenges, Golden Moons, a chaotic LTM, and unlockable Items featuring the immortal space princess GRIMES.

In collaboration with GRIMES’ upcoming space opera, a super-intelligent deep space AI will begin transmitting Challenges directly into your life-sim, allowing you to unlock GRIMES-themed items. If our calculations are correct, they should arrive on Earth Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 9 a.m. PST (5 p.m. UTC)!

You’ll be ready to join the machines with the Gravitator and Space Queen Toppers, Braided Trail, GRIMES Decal, GRIMES Wheels, and GRIMES Player Banner.

As we continue to give Grimes endless amounts of credit, those who plan to be there more for the singer than soccer played from behind the wheel of automobiles will also have the opportunity to unlock two new player anthems from Grimes’ next record: “Player of Games” and “Shinigami Eyes”.

Neon Nights runs until February 8, by which time Grimes will likely have announced that she’s written two movies and a play, run across Canada with X Æ A-Xii on her back, and flown to the moon and back under her own steam.

Mike Usinger once took the better part of two years to finish Grand Theft Auto. Over the course of his career he has written about everything from eSports to music to movies to travel.
