Riot Games’ upstart first-person shooter game VALORANT has just landed a high-profile defector: Overwatch League superstar Jay “Sinatraa’ Won.

The American-born gamer took to Twitter yesterday to announce his retirement from both the San Francisco Shock and the league that made him famous.

His initial tweet was of the decidedly cryptic variety, consisting of “ok wait i didnt expect it to leak so im not ready lemme write up a twitlonger for the first time in my life” and then “SF SHOCK”.

With career earnings of nearly $400,000, Sinatraa was seen as the famously vocal player who led the Shock to an Overwatch League championship last year. He was also one of the faces of OL.

But declaring that he “straight up just lost passion for the game”, Sinatraa announced that he’s decided to launch a career in VALORANT, which has done huge numbers this month in closed-beta mode on Twitch.

VALORANT is scheduled for general release this summer.

In a TwitLonger post, Sinatraa also revealed that he agonized over his decision for a full month.

After watching the video, read his entire statement, including gushing words of praise for the San Francisco Shock teammates he’s leaving behind.

SF SHOCK: im just gonna jump straight into why i retired and talk about my teammates

straight up just lost passion for the game. idk what the real killer was for me but maybe it was 2-2-2 lock maybe it was bans im not sure… i just know it was hard for me to log on to play and i didnt have fun in scrims/ranked at all anymore. i did not make this decision in 1 day it took a full month of non stop thinking every day and sleepless nights from being so stressed. it fucking sucked but ultimately i wanted to do whats right for me. i wanna thank NRG/SHOCK and OWL for giving me a chance and making my dreams come true. (shoutout andy, brett, jaime <3) last thing, i just wanna say sorry to all my fans, fans of OWL, and everyone on shock. in the past month i did not give OW/OWL my all and it showed in scrims and even in OWL so im sorry.
